The redesigned 2017 Mazda CX-5 comes in three trim levels: Sport (the base), Touring, and Grand Touring. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive are standard, while all-wheel drive is available in any trim. A diesel engine is expected to be available in the second half of 2017.
The sweet spot for most shoppers will likely be the midrange Touring trim. For about $1,900 more than the base price, you’ll get comfort and convenience features like leatherette and heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, additional driver assistance features, and four USB ports to ensure your passengers’ devices stay charged. This trim also offers optional features like navigation, an upgraded sound system, and more advanced safety features. You could spend thousands more to get all these options in the fully loaded CX-5 Grand Touring model, but depending on your priorities and budget, you may prefer to just buy them as a package in the lower trim.
Mazda CX-5 Sport
The base Mazda CX-5 Sport starts at $24,045. Standard features include cloth seating, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way manually adjustable passenger seat, a four-speaker sound system, two USB ports, Bluetooth, HD Radio, push-button start, a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system, voice-command activation, a rearview camera, and low-speed automatic braking. There are no major options or packages available with the Sport trim.
Mazda CX-5 Touring
The Touring trim has an MSRP of $25,915 and adds leatherette/suede seats, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a six-way manually adjustable passenger seat, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker sound system, four USB ports, proximity key entry, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
There are two available option packages for the Touring trim, but you can only choose one. The $780 Preferred Equipment package adds more convenience features like a universal garage door opener, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, navigation, a moonroof, and a power rear liftgate.
The i-ACTIVSENSE package is a great deal at $625, and it includes the garage door opener and windshield wipers from above, along with advanced safety features like automatic high beams, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.
Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring
The CX-5 Grand Touring is the top-of-the-line trim. For $29,395, it includes all the features and options from the previous two models, in addition to leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 19-inch wheels, satellite radio, and adaptive headlights. The optional Premium package ($1,830) comes with a six-way power-adjustable passenger seat, driver’s seat memory settings, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and a head-up display with traffic sign recognition.
